I’m Catherine Anne Tuppen—an artist, data science analyst, and yoga instructor.

I spend my weekdays working with data, my weekends teaching yoga, and the in-between moments making art.

I’ve loved creating for as long as I can remember, ever since my mom gave me my first Crayola watercolor set as a kid. Growing up, I took art classes and entered local contests, always finding ways to keep creativity in my life.

My early professional experiences shaped how I see art today. My first job was working for a local architecture firm, where I learned the importance of good craft (and how to shoot a pistol!). Later, working as Studio Administrator for landscape painter Deborah Paris, I developed a deep appreciation for art history and the magic of composition in a painting.

My dad warned me about becoming a starving artist, so at The University of Texas at Austin, I studied Biomedical Engineering (with a minor in Chinese to connect with my Taiwanese family). With all that on my plate, my artwork took a back seat for a while. During my final year in undergrad, I was able to take a couple art classes. Many of the drawings and paintings from those classes are here on my website.

After undergrad, I moved to Wisconsin and worked at a healthcare software company who shall not be named. There, I discovered I hated long winters and, accordingly, loved hot yoga. I moved back to the warmth of Texas, got my masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Rice University and completed my 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training at Lost Lotus Yoga Studio in Houston, where I’m now an instructor and Studio Lead!

During the early days of the pandemic, I spent two weeks in isolation at my family’s ranch in Northeast Texas where I caught fish for dinner, picked dewberries, and took daily walks with my camera. Lots of these photos are featured here on my website.

Today, I work remotely in a role that satisfies my analytical side while giving me the time (and money) to create art and teach yoga.

Right now, I’m focusing on growing my art practice by building my Etsy shop, breaking into the world of artist markets, and maybe even starting a subscription art mail club?! And of course – making more art!

Thanks for visiting! I hope something here brings you joy!
